BUILD A STRONGER ROOF
Oklahoma weather doesn’t play around. High winds. Hail. Severe thunderstorms. Tornadoes.
When it’s time to replace your roof, you have an opportunity to do more than simply replace what was there before.
You can build it stronger.
Mallard Roofing has completed specialized FORTIFIED Roof™ training and passed the FORTIFIED roofing
contractor certification exam, preparing our team to install roofing systems using the rigorous standards developed
by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS).
WHAT IS A FORTIFIED ROOF?
FORTIFIED Roof™ is a voluntary construction and re-roofing standard developed from decades of scientific research into how homes are damaged during severe weather. It goes beyond many ordinary building-code requirements by strengthening vulnerable parts of the roofing system.
Keep the roof on. Keep water out. Better protect everything underneath it.
A ROOF IS MORE THAN SHINGLES.
FORTIFIED looks deeper than the roof covering you see. Depending on the home and applicable FORTIFIED requirements, the system can incorporate:
Stronger Roof Deck Attachment
Roof decking is attached according to FORTIFIED requirements designed to improve resistance to high winds.
Sealed Roof Deck
An approved sealed-deck method helps reduce water intrusion if the primary roof covering is damaged or blown away.
Enhanced Roof Edges
Specific requirements address vulnerable roof-edge components such as drip edge and starter materials.
High-Wind-Rated Roof Coverings
Roof coverings must meet applicable testing and performance requirements.
Improved Vents and Openings
Applicable roof vents and other components must meet FORTIFIED requirements intended to reduce storm-related vulnerabilities.
Detailed Installation Documentation
Critical components of the installation are documented throughout construction.

BUILT BY MALLARD. VERIFIED INDEPENDENTLY.
One of the biggest differences with FORTIFIED is that the contractor doesn’t simply declare that the roof meets the standard. A certified independent FORTIFIED Evaluator documents critical components of the installation and submits the required information for review.
IBHS reviews the documentation and determines whether the property meets the FORTIFIED standard and qualifies for an official FORTIFIED designation.
Built to a higher standard. Documented. Independently verified.
WHY FORTIFIED MAKES SENSE IN OKLAHOMA
Oklahoma homeowners know severe weather isn’t a hypothetical risk. That’s why we believe homeowners replacing a roof should at least understand the option of upgrading to a FORTIFIED Roof.
If I’m replacing my roof anyway, what would it take to build it better?
COULD A FORTIFIED ROOF SAVE MONEY ON INSURANCE?
Potentially. Some insurance companies offer incentives associated with qualifying FORTIFIED-designated properties. Benefits can vary by carrier, policy and location and are not guaranteed. Mallard recommends speaking directly with your insurance agent about your specific policy.
INSURANCE CLAIM? ASK ABOUT THE FORTIFIED OPTION.
If a storm has damaged your roof and replacement is necessary, talk with Mallard about whether your home is eligible and whether upgrading the replacement to FORTIFIED standards makes sense. Your insurance policy may pay for covered storm damage while you choose to invest in additional upgrades that strengthen the new roofing system. Coverage varies by policy and carrier, so we'll help you understand the construction options while your insurance professional can explain your specific coverage.
